Passenger Trains > Where in the world is 50?

Train 50 is not on the map today, tho 51 is sailing down the NEC as I type.  Amtrak's website shows TBD on my request for station arrival times for 50.

Does anyone know the story?

The Bird is down.  Locomotive mechanical failure.  Continued failures after an in field repair.  They stuck a fork in it and called in busses from Rensselaer.  Equipment should eventually deadhead back to Chicago.  The saga continues...

Dixieland shows departing Chicago 8:06pm; and last report is Rensselaer at 2:02am - Service DIsruption (6 hours late)
for Mechanical issues - 4 notifications starting at 11:39pm to 1:15am. An additional delay of 3 hours is anticipated.

No ALC 42 involved here. P42 139 was the culprit. 

This was posted on Twitter 8 hours ago, so the passengers have to rebook the next train on Tuesday 09/01?

"Itinerary Change^ Our team has completed the mechanical assessment. Unfortunately, Train 50 will be canceled from Rensselaer (REN) to New York (NYP). Customers are encouraged to rebook to the next available service. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate your patience and understanding."

Is Amtrak putting all their eggs in one basket with keeping the ALC42s in ops that they perhaps neglect deep overhaul and maintenance of the P42s that the ALC42s have begun to replace? The heavy black smoke coming from many of the P42s is why I ask cause that's a CLEAR sign that more maintenance attention is needed on these units than what they are getting!

Can't do an overhaul if there's no budget for it. It even works that way on a "normal" railroad.

301s on the Coast Starlight right now, and is doing OK for the moment.
