Date: 01/15/14 18:08 Re: Some Italian power Author: africansteam Cool pix of a cool loco!
Cheers, Jack Date: 01/15/14 20:16 Re: Some Italian power Author: GPutz It looks to me like the trucks were just rebuilt or thoroughly cleaned, and the lower body was just painted; but not the upper body. Did this motor operate in Italy, or was it built in Italy specifically for service in Chile? Gerry

Date: 01/16/14 05:43 Re: Some Italian power Author: 86235 The Italian group GAI carried out the initial electrification of the FCS in the early 1960s supplying these and similar 4 axle electrics (E30) and EMUs. IIRC the trucks on these locos were cast by the British off-shoot of General Steel Castings.
Here's an E30 taken in 1989 Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 01/16/14 09:33 by 86235. Date: 01/16/14 18:51 Re: Some Italian power Author: DWBrown Chile is 5ft 6in gauge, so as reported in this tread, they were built specifically for FCS. Much of the electrification that was built in the 1960s has been removed except for wires south of Santiago to the ski resort areas, but mostly in suburban district and some trackage in Valparaiso.
Masterphotos could followup on what electrification is still used. Dale Brown Date: 01/18/14 05:55 Re: Some Italian power Author: rschonfelder All I can say is that Italians make very nice looking motor vehicles ...
Rick Date: 01/19/14 07:22 Re: Some Italian power Author: ATSF3751 Those locos bear a strong resemblance to some GE's built for the New Haven in the 1950's
Date: 01/19/14 19:05 Re: Some Italian power Author: 567Chant The truck wheelbase of 4217 seems extraordinarily long.
...Lorenzo Date: 01/19/14 21:13 Re: Some Italian power Author: PERichardson The catenary now extends from Santiago south to Chillan, about 200 miles. All passenger trains on the line are EMUs, no locomotive hauled passenger trains anywhere in Chile.
The E30 and E32 Italian electrics were of a unique carbody design, only in Chile. |
