Old New Zealand train
Author: BobE

My old friend, the late Fran Wiener caught these two D1 class engines at Dunedin, New Zealand in 1981.

<pedant mode>I think it may be DI (letters) class not D1 (letter/number).

Yes, a pair of the fabulous sounding 6 cyl English Electric DIs on the Makarao to Burnside 'stone train' at Sawyers bay (north of Dunedin).

The traffic ended when the cement works closed in 1989.

This is a pretty old shot - prob from around 1980, before 1814 had its numbers repainted into an unusual, non-standard shorter, sans-serif style. 1837 blew its motor about 1985 or so and both locos were written off in 88/89. DI 1820 was preserved.
