A few Hong Kong trams
Author: wpamtk

A few shots of trams in Hong Kong's low-rent district, taken on July 6. Note one car has been modified for sightseeing, sort of like a "hop on-hop off" bus.

Wow! What a change in old HK! I rode them 50 years ago!

Are these "old" trams that have been rebuilt and modernized, or are they "new" trams made to look like the old trams?

They are heavily rebuilt old trams, originally built in the UK. The most recent rebodying also saw improvements to the control and electrical systems. Some of these two axle trams are on their third body. The running gear is original, heavily modified. The open top tram is unrebuilt from the second rebuilding. At one time they had first and second class seating. I believe there is a preserved Hong Kong tram in the UK in near original condition.

Notice the British built (Dennis) double decker bus beside the tram, the latest of several generations of UK double deckers used in Hong Kong.

The subway also has/had broad guage cars built by Metropolitan-Cammell in the UK
