Question about Japanese Depot
Author: drumwrencher

Please bear with me, folks - apologies if I'm way off here. Late last "insomniac" night, I was finally near tired enuff to get some shut eye. I was half perusing Japanese railroading on my ipad, half starting to nod off, when I came across a pic of a depot that looked surprisingly like a steam engine - I mean, it was clearly a building, maybe 6 or so stories tall, but it had a silver circle on one end, like maybe a smokebox door, something resembling a headlight on the roof, and three round top doors on the side that looked to be "drivers".

Was I looking at a real depot, or just some "artist's conception"? One never can tell, nowadays. Computer-savvy people can make some interesting pics look pretty real: I dunno... Apologies, I didn't think to record the web address.

Any info appreciated.

Walter

Iidabashi Station in Tokyo has a very distinctive architecture with circles. Looking for my pictures.

The Moka station in Mooka, Japan is designed to look like a steam locomotive. The railroad operates a class C12 steam locomotive rather regularly in excursion service. A search on the internet for Mooka Railroad, Japan or Moka station will yield the answers to all of your questions. There is a webcam that shows the station. Do a search for webcam, Moca, Japan.

That's it alright. I did try to capture a screen shot, but it won't upload here.

Sleepless mistery solved. Thanks.

Thanks! Great website. I didn't realize there are two steamer-shaped buildings - I guess one is the station, and the other is a museum.

Only thing is, now I need to add it to my bucket list!!!

Solved!

Thank you. It turns out to be Mooka station, but I appreciate your input.

It gets better. Moka Railway's HQ is on top of the station, inside the steam locomotive-shaped building. It's safe to speculate that this organization is more about pride than about austere building and financial oppression.
