KCSM from Las Vigas de Ramires to Xalapa
Author: funnelfan

Has anyone railfanned this steep twisting line that drops a 1000 meters between the two points mentioned in the title (2425m to 1425m). This is part of the KCSM line that runs east from Mexico City to Veracruz. Been following it on acme mapper for a couple days and it looks damned impressive. All kinds of sharp turnback loops. Saw a pair of SD60's at the top of the hill in streetview. For whatever reason, streetview coverage seems a lot better in Mexico than the US.

I was lucky enough to ride from Mexico City to Veracruz behind steam in the 60's! Some of it was double-headed! (If my old memory serves me).

Yep - know that grade quite well. I have visited there twice and enjoyed the incredible show of trains working that grade. Some of my work appeared I the Pentrex video Central Mexico Rails. - Dan H.
