Helsinki to Vladivostok-Part 42
Author: CNStratford

Back in the 1960s when I tried to go to Vladivostok, I found that it was a closed city because it is Russia's Pacific naval port. Now Vladivostok is a tourist destination. The city has even built a cruise ship dock next to the railway station. Although it was a foggy day, we wandered around with total freedom as we tried to see their tram lines.
But the first pictures attached here are just general views of the formerly closed city. One odd thing in the city was that about half the autos are of Japanese heritage. Japan is like Great Britain in that they drive on the left-hand side with the driver sitting on the right. Russia drives on the right just like most of Europe and North America.
Picture 1 - A statue honouring the naval heritage. There were a few warships in the harbour near the railway station but they were hard to photograph in the fog.
Picture 2 - Very expensive shops for the tourist - maybe that should be non-railfan tourist.
Picture 3 - Some of the beautiful public spaces in the city.

More interesting photos.
They do seem to keep the place cleaned up pretty well based on your photos.
Would imagine the tourist shops do well when the cruise ships come in.
The park looks like a nice tranquil place.
Thanks for continuing to post your photos.
