Ties have been replaced, and the rails, while not well polished, weren't rusty either. Rebuilding the line to Mexico isn't challenging in this countryside, getting Customs and such may be a bit more difficult. And some work will be needed in Mexico.

At that time recent track work was evident, and the rails were shiny. Was this part of the work for the pipe trains mentioned on the Western discussion? Some pics:
