International Railroad Discussion > Curtain system in an old tunnel?Date: 06/15/18 15:39 Curtain system in an old tunnel? Author: pedrop Hi, I am very curious about an old mechanism found in an tunnel dated from 1873 that still in use by MRS railroad. In the bottom portal we see an iron bar and some hooks on it. I imagine that it was an old system of a curtain that was used to close the bore after or before the train enter the tunnel. I could not find anybody who could explain what it was exactly. Does somebody here in TO have seen a system like this in any of US railroads in the steam era?

Maybe MOW folk could hang some sort of lightweight dust or paint curtain there during work in the tunnel? Bob Date: 07/08/18 11:50 Re: Curtain system in an old tunnel? Author: pedrop No, the bar seen o top is solid bar from the steam era. The pipe seen below is electric conduit done in modern area.
