The first GE ES43BBi to VLI (Brazil)
Author: pedrop

Hi, the first two of an order of eleven narrow gauge ES43BBi to VLI are almost finished. Here are the first pics at GE plant in Contagem,  MG, Brazil. It is about 50 km far from my home.
I hope to see them alive when VLI take them out of GE plant.

They weight 196 tons. The BB40-9's weight 164 tons. The SD70ACeBB weight 190 tons.

They weigh more than the BB40-9? That's susprising since they also are very similar to the ES30ACi for Transnet in South Africa.

It appears the couplers can swing very wide on the units.  Is that correct?

Yes sir, the narrow gauge tracks of VLI system have very tight curves.

That cab A/C on the nose keeps them from putting the logo front and center. Odd design choice from GE
