VLI railroad will receive the first two GE ES43BBi next week. Here are some data I received about it.

Do you know the ratings for the traction motors ?  Horse power, ETC ?   I assume, these are different motors than those found on the six motor truck assemblies.

Not listed in GE 2016 product catalogue
https://issuu.com/getransportation/docs/ge-locomotive-product-catalog-2016

Why different motors to C-C?
This unit is a metre gauge (39.37") B+B-B+B, 8 traction motors to utilise the available horsepower.
The standard gauge traction motors cannot fit in metre/Cape gauge trucks. To achieve the same total power, more of the smaller motors are required.
When Brazilian railways narrow standard gauge C type GE bogies (cut and weld), in conversions of pre owned US locos to narrow gauge, they use GE (or Chinese clone) 761 traction motors. They then derate the engines to around 2700hp. With about 10% parasitic load, this gives around 2400hp for traction.

This is an evolution model rated to 4300HP. I will try to find more data on the traction motors and prime mover models.

Pedro,
Engine appears to be a tier 3 or below 12 cylinder EVO motor with centered exhaust stack, tier 4 motors have exhaust stack offset to engineers side.
The radiator does not look very big unlike ours.
Control stand looks like a NS unit with screens on top instead of in front of engineer, I like the Knorr air brake better than Wabco.
Computer screens look like ours except for language difference of course, someone needs to turn on the air brake circuit breaker.

I’ve noticed the radiators on the export models tend to be smaller as well, due to loading gauge and weight restrictions iirc. Not sure of the effect on performance or efficiency though.

Specs for South African units
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/South_African_Class_43-000
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/South_African_Class_44-000

43 is C30ACi and 44 ES40ACi

ES40ACi appears to have air to air intercooling (no room for larger radiator module?) so HP is 4200

Great info, thanks Pedro.

Do you know what size wheels they are using on their BB? The SD70ACe-BB uses 43" wheels for reference, but I believe the GE BB DC motor locos use 36" wheels, correct me if that's wrong.

Here it is a great video of the Rumo railroad ES43BBi's in action. Note that the first train have broad gauge AC44i's leading a narrow gauge train. The first car behind the locos do the transition of the gauges. The second trains have narrow gauge leading locomotives and cars, but the DPU in the read end are broad gauge using the same kind of gauge transition car.

Dave, the operator's manual says the wheels have 42 inches (1,067 mm)

Thanks Pedro, they didn't look that big to me in the drawing. The height of the underframe bottom plate makes it hard to judge.
