and that's something ya don't see everyday! Odyssey Evergreen, CO Date: 01/11/19 01:37 Re: German preserved steam near Wernigerode. Author: andersonb109 Looks like the line up to the Brocken. We did a photo charter there a few years back. Zero snow until we got near the summit. You pay your money, you take your chance.

The locomotive looks pretty frosted. So here's a steam-era predicament: If all the steam has condensed and turned to ice, how would the pistons work with ice inside? It looks like the crew has lit a fire under the cylinders. Maybe that's the solution? Otherwise you'd have to disconnect the side rods? On a diesel, at least you could roll it. The Lackawanna Railroad used the exhaust from its 2-8-2 locomotives to clear crusted ice from overhead electric lines in sleet storms. Author: 86235 99 234 was trapped on Tuesday near the summit station on the Brocken on a scheduled train from Wernigerode. It was dug out and returned to Westerntor depot in Wernigerode on Thursday. The frozen motion had to be removed to allow it to be towed back down the mountain
