Moving Progress Rail SD40-2´s to EMD factory (Brazil)
Author: pedrop

Hi, Progress rail of Brazil is moving some narrow gauge SD40-2, former US units, to EMD plant in Sete Lagoas, MG Brazil. The trains L490 and S398  arre delivering five Sd40-2 each.
I took some pics of train L490 yesterday and today. The schedule of train S398 means it can arrive in my town tomorrow. We imagine they are coming to be scrapped at EMD factory.

Interesting photos, thanks for posting them. So they now have 6 axle narrow gauge trucks it appears? I thought in the past all of the former standard gauge six axles locomoties  had to get the BB truck conversions with four motors on each end.

These six axles SD40-2´s were converted to  narrow gauge by Progress Rail to former ALL railroad, that didn´t want to pay for an expensive convertion.

The second train of PR locomotives run through my town today morning. It is sad to see such great locomotives going to scrap yards.

Neat shots. The BB36-7 is running, and not part of the scrap consist? That is interesting, in the US the SD40-2's have lasted way longer than the -7 series GE's.

Yes, the bb36-7 is operational and not in the scrap consist. Actually, we are not sure if these PR SD40's will be scrapped. I received a news yesterday that two of them were rented to a Aperam stell plant in Vale mining area. But 11 PR BB40's are coming to EMD plant for scrapping.
