International Railroad Discussion > EMD/ALCO Hostling in SantiagoDate: 05/17/19 12:52 EMD/ALCO Hostling in Santiago Author: erielackawanna As a Los Angeles railfan I've become sadly inured to locomotive tagging, but doesn't stop me from hating it. Still, what is, is, and my hobby is shooting the trains that are, not the trains I wish were there.
And so here are some shots to share of an hostler move in Santiago Chile back on April 14 as a retrucked GEEP (now an NRE SD39M-2) moves around an Alco RSD34 near Alameda Central Station. Are those export flexicoil trucks on the EMD the same as used on Milw. Rd. SDL39? Short wheel base to fit in the same space as a Blomburg truck on a Geep. Are some of these export units of the various builders availible in HO?

The larger manufacturer is Frateschi, which makes out of scale, toy-like items. But some small scale producers make custom shells that match Brazilian and Argentinian prototypes to scale. I made a EMD G22 using a Hobbytec Modelismo shell. They make an RSD8, which predates an RSD34. Some of those sources don't even have webpages, but have a facebook page. http://www.hobbytec.com.br/paginas/produtos/visualizar_produto.php?cod_prod=14 Edited 1 time(s). Any suggestions for any modeling groups to see someone’s kitbashing skills?
Are these model manufactures mainly HO/OO ? This opens up a whole new modeling adventure in retirement or maybe some out of country road trips! The two largest countries I think of that seem to have very active modeling but rely heavily on kitbashing are Indonesia and Brazil. I find some of that work through searching #hoscale or other hashtags on instragram. Or, from kitbashing work in Brazil, look through this page:

Date: 05/19/19 13:25 Re: EMD/ALCO Hostling in Santiago Author: erielackawanna I don't know - I didn't have a telephoto lens with me and I was instructed that while I would get away with a little bit of trespass where I was (not that far from the platform) if I went any farther it would be problematic. Wish I'd brought the tele with me.
