International Railroad Discussion > Chilean EMU long distance train in TenoDate: 05/20/19 09:29 Chilean EMU long distance train in Teno Author: erielackawanna Back on April 14, driving south along Route 5 from Santiago to Talco (and then the next day to Chillan), I was really surprised not see any trains. The tracks parallel the highway closely for a good deal of the drive and the infrastructure is nearly flaweless (welded rail, concrete ties, electrified, everything looking pretty new). I thought for sure I'd see some trains passing us. But no. On the first leg, down to Talca, we stopped at Teno where there was a dirt grade crossing and a substation, hoping to shoot something in the last light and knowing a northbound EMU was coming. We endd up waiting close to an hour. This set of UTS444s heading back to Santiago were literally the one train we would see on the main line that day.
