International Railroad Discussion > Train C217 with SD70ACe-BB here in town (Brazil)Date: 07/07/19 15:22 Train C217 with SD70ACe-BB here in town (Brazil) Author: pedrop Hi, today afternoon I visited EVP yard here in town and could see trains W713 and C217 swithing there. W713 was the local here and had a couple of GE U20C´s that brought sixteen empty flat cars to the yard. These cars were sent to a limestone route far from here and a couple of EMD SD70ACe-BB came here to take them to ECE yard to join other cars to that route. The cars will carry containers with limestone.
1 to 3 - Train W713 arriving at EVP yard. The couple of U20C left the flat car on track #2 and changes to track four to rest after a busy day switching around. Date: 07/07/19 15:27 Re: Train C217 wiith SD70ACe-BB here in town (Brazil) Author: pedrop 1 - The local taking track four, the same where the MoW cars use to be parked;
2 - Train L702 arrived in the yard as a couple of empty SD70ACe-BB´s to take the flat cars. "L" means train of locomotives only; 3 - After couple to the flat cars, L702 received the prefix C217. Date: 07/08/19 09:54 Re: Train C217 wiith SD70ACe-BB´s here in town (Brazil) Author: pedrop Hi, they are rated 4300HP.

For Example a SD-40 in the U.S has 3000 horsepower.but tractive effort is 92,000 pounds..

Date: 07/09/19 08:23 Re: Train C217 wiith SD70ACe-BB´s here in town (Brazil) Author: tomstp Thanks. If my math is correct it would be around 127,000 pounds of starting tractive effort.
Date: 07/09/19 10:05 Re: Train C217 wiith SD70ACe-BB´s here in town (Brazil) Author: pedrop Is it a good amount of tractive effort in comparison to the normal SD70ACe found in US?

Continous tractive effort at 12 miles per hour is 157,000 pounds.
Some railroads had more weight added to the engines which increased the tractive effort but I do no know the figures for that. Can you convert those figures into kNs ? Edited 1 time(s). Date: 07/09/19 17:26 Re: Train C217 wiith SD70ACe-BB´s here in town (Brazil) Author: pedrop The narrow gauge SD70ACeBB has a starting tractive effort of 162,762 pounds.
157,000 pounds = 698 kN 191,000 pounds = 850 kN tomstp Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Starting tractive effort is 191,000 pounds. for > SD70ACe in the U.S.. Thanks, Pedro. |
