International Railroad Discussion > VLI new shops ( Brazil)Date: 07/26/19 15:26 VLI new shops ( Brazil) Author: pedrop Hi, some pics of the new VLI shops in Imperatriz, MA. This is the broad gauge system of VLI in the FNS railroad. The tracks connect Vale broad gauge system Carajas railroad to the center part of Brazil. It is a new railroad that is under construction yet.

Date: 07/26/19 22:32 Re: VLI new shops ( Brazil) Author: E25 That is quite an operation in such a remote area. What is the source of business for that line. It looks like tank cars and hoppers, mostly. Not many box cars!
Another interesting post, Pedro Greg Stadter Phoenix, AZ Date: 07/27/19 12:06 Re: VLI new shops ( Brazil) Author: pedrop Hi, VLI has 1,550 km in the FNS railroad. Another stretch of the same distance belongs to Rumo railroad, that will starts operation there in a few weeks. The Rumo stretch is not completed yet. It needs to built about 300 km of tracks to link to Rumo network in Sao Paulo state. At this time a C30-7 is been moved by truck to Anapolis, GO to officially open the operations of Rumo in the FNS railroad.
That is a railroad for grains, but also has fuel and pulp wood as cargos. In the future, the FNS will carry many kind of cargos because it will link Brazil from north to south. From Porto Nacional to Ouro Verde it is the Rumo stretch.
Note the new railroads under construction or planned to link FNS to east and west. This week, the government signed an agreement to allow US companies to built railroads in Brazil too. Some american groups intend to operate railroads here too. Posted from Android Pedro Rezende Vespasiano MG, https://youtube.com/c/minasgeraisrailways1 Edited 1 time(s). It's a much better perspective of the "big picture" of the operation.
After I read your original post I checked out the line on Google Maps, but I was left with the question of "what does all of this tie into." Best regards, Greg Stadter Phoenix, AZ Date: 07/29/19 17:05 Re: VLI new shops ( Brazil) Author: pedrop FNS is part of big project to connect distant areas of the country. At this time, the country economy is focused in the grain and ore commodities, so these lines planned intend to allow the exportation of commodities produced in the north and west part of the country.
