Some photos from the open house of the facilty this morning.

"Business as usual, nothing fancy to show off."
If I need to describe what I saw this Summer at the facility, I guess that states all.

No special trains or what so ever, no special arrangements were made to bring in any equipment other that what it has to shop.

Every quite, there to visit.

These are 500s of class 231. It was designed for Yamanote Loop line service.
JR decided to replace class 231 with newer class 235.  these 500s cars found a new home.
500s is now replacing class 209 as well as 0s of class 231 of Chuo local service.

Business as usual, the canteen is OPEN today! That is a very good news, indeed. 
It looks like it has Today's special! See the menu board!  I can stop by to have a lunch here!

Now, move to the next area where kits can try to drive trains.
Shop engineers combined real control stands to the train driving simulation game called "Densha de Go."

To ride on the simulator, you have to make a line and wait a bit.  It is the most popular attraction of the facility on that day!
Actual control stands were from actual cars who had maintained at this facility once.  It is really one of kinds and you must ride on.

BTW, this is not the cyber-world facility, but the real one.  Here is the proof.  Near the main gate, it shows off its pride, the safety record.

Yes, CPRR-san, hope you have enjoyed interesting photos that I took at the faciltiy.

At the end of the shop building, you may see this. 
Yes, it is a traverser.

Q: But some shop buildings have no such equipment, then what you do?

A: The facility uses a pair of spcial tracker heads, called "non-tra" from non-traverser.
Here is how it looks like.

Now, you are invited to an area of the facility where driving units will be separated form the EMU body. 
Drive units will be sent to the other area where the maintenance engineers gives it the full inspection and maintenance work. 
Meantime the EMU body will be sent to the body shop area to refurbish the externals as well as internals.

To do all of maintenance work, a pair of non-tras and a 40-ton Crane demonstrates its muscle here.
And, of course, a Crane operator with a remote control box!!

Now, we are able to see what in the underframe.

The operator has to bring the car down so that both pins will be locked by the 5th wheel of the both "non-tras."

About two years ago, the Ohi facility decided to replace petrol-driven non-tras to electric motor driven ones.  But it still kept the petrol-driven ones at the storage area.

Moved into the motor maintenance shop where another carne demonstration was going on.
This shop still has a classical style crane mounted near the ceiling and an operation was up there.
A truck taken out from an EMU was left up and moved to far back of the shop where maintenance will be conducted.
