Hi, my friend Rony spent a few hours at Paranapiacaba, SP where MRS railroad has a steep cog railway that uses modern Stadler locomotives.

What are those very interesting tank cars! ? In the video. What do they carry and is the unusual shape for a quick discharge of the contence? As always your posts are full of interest and surprises! Oh yes, the locomotives are great too!

Hi, those a cement cars. They are the type used here in Brazil. They are unloaded by pressured air.

Thanks for an update on this interesting operation of a cog line and steep grade down to the port.  When were these newer locomotives introduced?  I was there in 1990, I believe at that time the locos were from Japan. At that time one could squeeze though a fence/gate and walk down the old incline railroad right of way which was above and parallel to the cog line.  As I recall pathways on some of the bridges on the old incline were in very poor condition and in some places dangerous to walk over. .   Is this still possible?

Hi, the Stadler eletrics were introduced in 2013. MRS bought seven units.
About the old right of way in Paranapiacaba hill,yes...some crazzy guys use to walk on those viaducts. There are some videos on youtube.

Thank you Pedro for the cement car pics! Now who produces these neat cars in HO?  Some are going to be imported to the USA!
Those electric locomotives are interesting as well. So much railroading to research and hopefully see in retirement.

Hi, Frateschi produces the cement cars in HO. I am not sure if they are accurately in scale, but everybody here use them.

I notice they do not come with knuckle couplers.

Frateschi uses a toy type coupler...you need to adapt a better one at home. Not difficult to american modelists...to us is harder... we need to import them😔

After learning of the massive meter gauge ore trains and viewing these photos of a cog operation I've come to a conclusion.  In  Brazil there's no such word as "Can't" when  it comes to railway operations.
