Train S396 with BB40-3 for scrapping
Author: pedrop

Hi, Progress Rail of Brazil is sending some rebult BB40-3´s for scrapping at EMD plant here. Today I met train S396 with two VLI leading BB40-2´s and two BB36-7 working for braking taking five BB40-3´sthat were on leasing with VLI for scrapping. It´s the end of an era. PR intends to scrapp all units in 8100 series.

Any particular reason they’re being scrapped, even though they are -3’s instead of the -2’s?

Always bummed to see the fascinating Brazilian units go away. I didn’t make it to Brazil before the last of the DDM45’s were scrapped :(

Hi, since Progress Rail owns EMD, They decided to scrap the old units to produce more new SD70 or GT46 for leasing or sale and help EMD of Brazil to find new custumers.

Well, Vale mining still have 25 DDM45's in its fleet. Most are stored, but some are working in the heavy switching operation at Tubarao port.
