A derail near here (Brazil)
Author: pedrop

Hi, last Thursday we had a derail at EPM yard, abour 40 km from here. A couple of DPU of MRS iron cast train run out of the rails for more than 1 km, destroying the tracks and switching machines when entering the yard. The couple of GE stayed in a bad position blocking all tracks,so it was necessay three cranes and almost 40 hours of hard job to put them in the tracks again. Obe of the unit had broken wheels.
I went there with friends at evening to see the cranes in action, but due to heavy rains approaching VLI railroad stopped the cranes operations due the risk of lightning

Wow, that is quite an event. Tearing up not just two rails, but three. Thanks for posting it.

An informative post, Pedro.  In the video, it was eye-opening to see how an entire length of ties had been moved sideways about a foot with the rails still attached.
