SAR steam whistle

I have a brass 3 chime steam step top whistle marked SAR on side of the bowl, and SAS on the opposite side. I know what SAR means, but don't know anything about SAS. Any one know what it means ?

Suid Afrikaanse Spoorwee.  Afrikaans language for South African Rys. 

South African Airways, SAA, was also known as SAL:    Suid Afrikaanse Lugdiens
