XPTS run overnight between Sydney and Melbourne and reverse plus up to Brisbane , no sleepers ,, time keeping is very good , leave Melb at 7.30 pm and into Sydney Central Station at 7 am. , same times going other direction. I have down a trip on XPT between Sydney and Melbourne and back recently , being a railfan i did not sleep much sitting up , there is long term drought affecting NSW and QLD , water is precious , Sydney has iust gone to more stricter household water restrictions . Grain is being railed from SA to NSW , so on that overnight trip i checked out grain trains at Junee , Cootamundra and Golbourn. , PN grain trains were noted at those locations . My city , Tamworth , NSW , 80, 000.pop , could run out of drinking water if no big rainfall happens in he near future., dam here is down to 20% capacity , the city has some underground water supplies as well. Travel in Sept or April/May. Over 40c here every day next week.

There is a daylight service also,no sleepers.Melbourne bound one comes through here (Wagga)around 2pmish weekdays,Sydney bound one a little earlier.
