Two questions:  Do the trains run at night, and if so, do they have a red light on the last car?

Are there any plans to do away with the narrow gauge?

as usual, good stuff.  with the grades in those mountains, i am surprised there is no rear end device/etd/fred to place the train into emergency from the rear.

Hi, it has end of a train device, but it is very small and you can not see it easily.

Hi, yes the trains run day and night but the end of a train device is very small and do not have lights on it. It send signals to the cab and to the detectors along the tracks.

The only plan to finish with narrow gauge is a federal law that says all new railroad must be built in broad gauge. So that's why railroads like EFC, FNS, FIOL and others under construction are broad gauge. The narrow gauge system is too big to be rebuilt to broad gauge. It is easier and more economical to keep it running in modern day with old and modern narrow gauge rolling stock.

A friend of mine took these pics to me to show you the end of train device used by VLI. Each subdivision has its own EOT color, so they can sent it back with the next train.
