Tay Bridge 140 years remember
Author: bakersfielddave

December 28 1879

a well known tragedy in Dundee, Scotland when a bridge failed in a hurricane type storm ,taking a complete passenger train with it into the river

Must have been a terrible thing to experience for the passengers and train crew

The piers of the original bridge are still there and can be seen from the current structure.

"The High Girders" by John Prebble, published in 1969 in both paperback and hardcover is an excellent description of the tragedy.

Sir Thomas Bouch, the civil engineer built many successful railway bridges, some of which are still in use. The collapse of the Tay bridge was a huge tragedy to the British public and Bouch got most of the blame.. Shoddy workmanship was at least partially to blame.
