The fires north of Sydney have caused problems with routes to the north being closed temporarily.
The fires to the south of Sydney (southeast New South Wales and eastern Victoria) are in hilly areas where there is no rail.
West of Sydney is another matter, with the infrastructure for electric train service being burnt --> https://www.smh.com.au/national/nsw/fire-damage-shuts-blue-mountains-line-to-electric-trains-for-months-20200103-p53oik.html
Although freight trains (and the weekly long distance cruise train) can be routed south around the Blue Mountains, shorter distance commuters will be significantly affected.

I recall the famous Zig Zag heritage railway had it's works burned a few years back and I believed had not yet re-opened. Staffing was also an issue. Was it affected again? The other line that comes to mind is the Puffing Billy heritage railway near Melbourne in Victoria. Any status?

I believe saving lives and putting out the fires is a bit higher on the priority list.
