A day at MRS P1-07 yard with an american railfan (Brazil)
Author: pedrop

HI, After visiting Vale VDD yard  with the CSX guy  https://www.trainorders.com/discussion/read.php?6,4944458 -  we also visited MRS P1-07 yard. It is located at the end of Ferrovia do Aço (steel railroad), called FA  as a short name for railroaders and railfans. At P1-03, MRS used to load up to 18 ore trains a day. But after the tragedy with Brumadinho dam on Januuary 24, 2019  https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2019/02/09/world/americas/brazil-dam-collapse.html (exatly one year ago), many mud dams along the railroad routes that serve ore mines where closed due to the risk of new collapses. The tracks that goes to P1-03 pass in front a huge mud dam. The dam that is where all the dirt from the ore ends. After almost an year stopped, Vale and MRS developed a system to run the ore trains without crew from P1-03 to P1-05 yards, about 20 km long by tracks. So, the ore trains started to be loaded again at P1-03 yard in the end of 2019, but since these remote controled trains run in low speed, the number of trains loaded a day dropped to three or four. It is better than nothing.
Here are my pics taken in November 7, 2016 with the CSX guy at P1-03. Enjoy.

The FA was built in the 1980´s by government owned RFFSA railroad. Its plans were to reach Belo Horizonte and also Itabira. The road bad was openned from P1-03 to BH and also to Itabira, but never received tracks. The 1980´s was a difficult time in Latin America and many project were abandonned due the lack of money.

That's all for now.
