International Railroad Discussion > Conrail in BrazilDate: 02/18/20 04:27 Conrail in Brazil Author: pedrop I just received this picture from VLI security camera at ECE yard. If one look carefully will perceice that MRS 3756 is a former Conrail C36-7. It is former Conrail 6638, and later CSX 7124.

Is that a Southern Pacific SD40 tunnel motor or a Rio Grande unit in the back ground? I must have been asleep in a Caboose somewhere when all this US equipment migrated !
Date: 02/19/20 02:28 Re: Conrail in Brazil Author: pedrop Hi, BB40T-2 4822 is forner Rio Grande SD40T-2 5360. VLI and Progress Rail started to torch up these old units. Three of them passed here in town on way to EMD plant to be cannibalized and then cut.

I'm reposting some links to pedrop's posts about US locomotives emigrating to Brazil. Originally posted at https://www.trainorders.com/discussion/read.php?11,4059314,4059793#msg-4059793 and https://www.trainorders.com/discussion/read.php?1,1187960,4059796#msg-4059796 Did you happen to see this thread in the International Board? http://www.trainorders.com/discussion/read.php?6,4011323,page=2 Documentation of the over 1000 US mainline locomotives that were shipped to Brazil in the 2000s. I'd never heard of this before, but a poster Pedro has stacks of photos on a 68-post thread. The following Rio Grande units went to Brazil: SD40T-2: 5345, 5347, 5360, 5374, 5375, 5376, 5377, 5379, 5380, 5381, 5383, 5384, 5385, 5386, 5398, 5400, 5405, 5406 Pics of #5405 at the top of page 2. Do you have the numbers of the final fleet of Tunnel Motors used in Helper? I wonder how many went to Brazil... Ted in OR edit -- another pedrop post, #8159 was destroyed in a bridge collapse this year. The front plow looks like original Rio Grande paint. Though the front ends of all the units were rebuilt with longer porches, so it's possible that 8159 was another EMD loco and they mixed and matched the plows... http://www.trainorders.com/discussion/read.php?6,3984321 edit 2 -- I dug up two of your other 1999 photos with numbers. http://www.trainorders.com/discussion/read.php?11,4036120 Looks like of the six tunnel motors you photographed that day, three went to Brazil. 5384, 5385, 5400 http://www.trainorders.com/discussion/read.php?11,4023833 And three of the six from this post 5386, 5400, 5405 (shown in Pedro's post being offloaded from a ship in Brazil). and Fast-forward 10 years to 2016 -- Photos of SP 8261 / UP 8804 in Brazil being modified for B-B trucks have surfaced. Photos are with another set said to have been taken around 2005. http://www.trainorders.com/discussion/read.php?6,4011323,page=3 Author pedrop Scroll down to the middle of the thread. Ted in OR |
