Buenos Aires Plaza Constitucion October 1990
Author: 86235

My first visit to Buenos Aires was like a dream come true. Arriving on a Saturday morning I checked into my hotel and then headed off to Plaza Constitucion, the terminal of the former Buenos Aires Great Southern (FCS).

1: An EMD GT22CW on a commuter train to La Plata, the capital of Buenos Aires Province.

2: A view of the station. Tracks to the left had been recently electrified at 25kV using Japanese technology. Tracks to the right were used by the few remaining long distance services and the trains to La Plata.

3: An EMD GR12 leaving on a La Plata service. On the right is the afternoon rapido to Mar del Plata.

From my Wikipedia searches, it appears that Argentina has both broad gauge and standard gauge railways.

What about the 7,700 kilometres of metre gauge?
