Israel Rys odd EMD units
Author: masterphots

Israel Rys had the only three EMD model RSWs built.  Nos. 101-103 were built under license by S. A. Anglo-Franco-Belge in 1951; they were early EMD road switchers.  All three were still in existence in early 1993 with two in service.  Does anyone know if one of these was preserved?   Here are images of all three.

1.  101 at Haifa.  1/27/93

2.  102 at Haifa   1/27/93

3.  103 at Tel Aviv south station.  August 1971    Ralph Kercham photo, my collection   Wonder where that paint scheme came from ......

4.  Builders plate on No. 103.  Lod 1/26/93

5.  No. 103 at Lod  1/26/93

Then there were the units captured from Egypt in the 1967 war.  These included three EMD G16s and one G8.  I wasn't able to talk the shop boss at Haifa into pulling ithe G8 No. 251 out of the shop building for a photo so don't have any image.  The following are images of the G16s

6.  161 at Beersheva  1/31/93

Israel also acquired an EMD G12 from Egypt in the Six Day War, no. 127, here at Netanya in 1988. Note the ex-BR Mk2c behind the second loco.

Damn,  missed the x-Egypt G12s 127-130. (x-ERR 3712, 3715, 3766, 3795).   Roster footnote says acquired 10/67.  I don't know why I missed that footnote and I must not have seen them as I photographed every unit I saw.  The G8 was #251.(x-ERR 3536).  That one was sold to NRE and ended up back in the USA.  The three G16s 161-3 were x-ERR 3304, 3329, 3361.

Very similar to Utah Ry paint scheme. Interesting units. Thank you for sharing.

101-103 are old friends. They pulled the passenger train to Jerusalem.

I worked on a kibbutz west of Bet Shemesh in 1971, we would go up to Jerusalem a couple of days a week at around four in the afternoon.

One stood at the side of the track next to the kibbutz, and waved the train down, it always stopped!

East of Bet Shemesh in the gorge there were brief stops to drop off infantry patrols, platoon and once up to company strength.

Really interesting images. Probably the most I've ever seen of Israel Railways. Thanks much for posting them.

Israeli G12 129 (ex Egypt) has been stored at NRE Mount Vernon for around 15 years

Will it survive the current NRE cull and scrap drive?

Latest Google Earth image is dated 10/19/2017

The other 2 units are Clyde G12C, purchased in NZ in 2005, arrived Mount Vernon 2006
