Hi, Progress Rail delivered the battery powered yard switcher (called JOULE) to Vale mining yesterday afternoon at EMD plant. After the unit left the plant, it was sent to EWL yard nearby, where it was coupled to VLI grain train J760. This train left EWL today at 6:00 AM and had a grain car derailed after a few kilometers while leaving ELD yard. This yard is not far from here, so I went there to try to see the Joule.
VLI MoW crew took about three hours to put the car back to the rails. After that, I came back to EVP to watch it running here too.
Vale will start the tests wuith the Joule on September 20. Let's see how it will work with the hard job at the ore car dumpers in Tubarão port

10 - The damaged car was removed and train J760 run backward to join tge consist again.

16 - 18) The blue canvas was placed because Vake and EMD wants to oi a special event to celebrate the first Joule produced in Brazil and they do not want pictures appearing  in the news before thd event.

Thanks Pedro for an interesting series and video. It will be interesitng to see the new EMD locomotive in action.

So, EMD tarped the locomotive to prevent the public from seeing it prior to it's acceptance ceremony!  Yet, EMD didn't care that a pair of GE's finest were delivering their new motive power?  LOL!
