Very nice Pedro. Some questions: How many ton of coal in the low side gons?  And what kind of wood do they use in the ties? Treated with creosote?

And, what kind of coal is it"  anthracite, soft coal, or lignite?

Hi Larry, the weather here is very hot and dry these days. We had 38 to 39 all the week. The last rain was about four months ago. Terrible.

Hi, this coal and comes from overseas. I do not now where. Vale has big coal mines in Mozambique but I imagine this coke comes from another place. MRS also brings coal to my area. The coal belongs to Anglo American. I know tht Anglo has coal mines in Africa too. The type I do not know, sorry.

Hi, the low side gondolas can have 70 to 77 tons of net weight. Since coal is light, I imagine they carry 50 to 60 tons each.
MRS use HAT class open top hoppers to carry coal. These hoppers can carry 95 tons of net weight.

Most of the ties in my area are from the 1970's and are of good wood. Brazil has big forests. Eucalyptus with 40 years were common, but we have other type of wood. Creosote were used in the past and lot of the tracks are from that time. The new wooden ties are from young eucalyptus. They are not good and use to have many cracks even before to be applyed.
