After a few hours sleep I went back out to video the empties returning to the southwest as train No,6H38.

Shown passing the former site of Lanefield station just west of Rosewood and crossing the Lockyer Creek bridge at Gatton.

nice! Is that in the narrow gauge?

edit: never mind, for some reason assumed because it was watco that it was in Western Australia

Yes, 3'6" narrow gauge, or at least the other states think of it as narrow, up here it's normal.

What aare the "shields" for on the end of the cars?

I think to stop spilt grain from laying  in the end spaces during the loading process..Some Aussie coal hoppers have a similar shield.

A detail to note with the shields is that some are painted yellow. The cars are permanently coupled in two car sets with drawbars, the yellow shields identify the ends of the cars with couplers.
