Hey Rezende... God Jul to you, and your family.

Those GE's are like you and me, not getting any younger..

I just have to ask.  Do they ever repaint engines?

Yes sir, they do when the units return the EDV shops for a heavy maintenance program.

Were these units built locally in Brazil or at Erie, PA in the USA? And when were they originally built?

Part of them were built here,  part in US and part in South Africa. But the SA ones were sold to ALL years ago.(Rumo).

I loved the SAR U20C's. Rumo 2671 is former fca 2671.

So a mix of build locations. Interesting. I have never seen any pictures of the US built units still in the US prior to exporting. This also makes me wonder if GE had the proper gauge track to allow testing of them at Erie. And also interesting that they were still building them after the Dash 7 series had been introduced. Perhaps the U series locomotives were cheaper, or maybe just standardization with the rest of the fleets that already were working.

These are narrow gauge units that reach areas not allowed to big locomotives.
