Thanks Tim.

An ALF was built as an AL by Clyde Engineering for Australian National. They were built as a double ended loco with a cab on each end. The EMD model was JT26C and they basically an SD40 inside.

In 1993/94 they were rebuilt by Morrison Knudsen into the ALF class and had the No.2 end cab blanked off and all fittings removed. In its place went the locomotive batteries and the toilet. The rebuilt model was JT26C-2M. Since then the old MK-LOC computer systems have been replaced by the ZTR-Nexsys system. Might as welll call them an SD40-3!

Cheers,
Justin

Very similar to the BL. They came out in 1983/84 and had a more squared of roof above the cabs. They were the model JT26C-2SS and had the 3000hp 16-645E3B but with the SD50 electrics and AR16 main alternator. 9 out of the ten built are still in service with Pacific National.

Cheers,
Justin

Thanks for the pictures and information.

Question:   Since you apparently have tracks that can be used by any railroad how do they determine which railroad gets the "local traffic" such as grain elevators, auto assembly plants, lumber yards, etc.?

Whoever wins the contract with the customer to do the work.

Justin I'm curious how do the GWBs perform vs the GWAs?
