Author: pedrop

Hi, a broken rail caused a derailment of Rumo narrow guage locomotives today between the locations of Monte Castelo (LME) and Papanduva (LPV) in Santa Catarina state, in the South. Nobody was hurt.
Pics from a friend.

Sorry to see you have a derailment. Glad no one was hurt. A broken rail sure can make a mess of things as your interesting pictures show us.

Quite a mess, glad no one was hurt. I was surprised to see the 3 axle trucks. I thought all of the converted standard gauge locomotives rode on 4 axle truck systems.

Pedro -- Cool pics and close up footage. Getting those locomotives out of there looks like it's going to tear up the ROW.

These units were converted by former ALL railroad. People use to say that this was a "poor convertion" project, since ALL had no money to use BB+BB trucks. Actually, they converted just one GE to BB33M, but the cost was high and they preffered to lose tractice effort and use smaller traction motors in the original C-C trucks than to invest the convertion to BB+BB. They also preffered to use more units to compensate the lack of tractive effort per unit.

Was the standing unit in the lead, Pedro?  The other end of the consist didn't look as though someone would have walked away without serious injury.
