1) Hokuso Railway EMU in Takasago. The front end of these EMUs with the reverse-camber windshield reminds me of some of the French electric locomotives or the Russian 2TE116s. 2) Odakyu Railway Viewliner in Shin Yurigaoka. 3) Odakyu EMU in Shin Yurigaoka. I believe this is a Mark 2 set.
5) Shinkansen arriving at Tokyo Station, with line of car cleaners bowing at train's arrival. I was all set to take the photo, not knowing they would bow. When they all did so in unison, I knew I needed a photo of it! 6) Keio Railway EMU at a level crossing at Shimotokaido Station. Level crossings are very common on the private railways. 8) JR EMU at Shinjuku. 9) JR EMU on the Yokosuka Line at Yokosuka emerging from tunnel. Date: 02/13/21 15:45 Re: Japan 2002 Part 6 - Tokyo Area Author: 55002 I’ve had one trip to Japan, using the railpass. Very enjoyable. Thanks for the pics. Chris uk.

Thanks for sharing. Jon Fink Schenectady, NY Date: 02/13/21 21:18 Re: Japan 2002 Part 6 - Tokyo Area Author: norm1153 Interesting observation on #7. On the far right, the presumed residential building has an interesting electronic sign (at least I assume it's glowing).

As is standard operating procedure at 16th St Chicago and Sunnyside NYC. Date: 02/19/21 21:44 Re: Japan 2002 Part 6 - Tokyo Area Author: cchan006 norm1153 Wrote:

Yellow lettering does give it a perception of glowing. Date: 02/19/21 21:58 Re: Japan 2002 Part 6 - Tokyo Area Author: cchan006 dwatry Wrote:

You might have given me motivation to post a report. The EMU at Shinjuku is the now-retired Class E351 used exclusively for the "Super Azusa" Limited Express on the Chuo Line. It goes west out of Tokyo to the Japan Alps (and snow country). I was leaving Japan just 3 days before the "last run" and here are some photos I took on March 13, 2018. I was ready for E351's retirement, so I got video clips of the "Super Azusa" at various locations in Tokyo previous to that, unobstructed by the "Sayonara Run" railfans that crowd the platforms. I might have to post a separate report for that, too. Both photos taken at the north end of Shinjuku Station, and I got lucky and got Super Azusa #19, same train number on the poster. |
