MRS SD70ACe starts as a tail helper (Brazil)
Author: pedrop

Hi, here it is a video done by railfan Diego showing MRS SD70ACe 7047 in it's first job as a tail helper at P1- 07 yard.  It will be tested in this job for while up hill from P1-07 to P2-06 yards. That's a hsrd job where Demonstrators 7044 and 7045 failed about three years ago. Let's see now.
1) MRS main yards in its Ferrovia do Aço (FA) line;
2) FA map;
3) The video.

Very nice shot.  Are these 20-cylinder locomotives?  I notice a longer radiator section and an extra radiator fan compared to the SD70ACes in North America.

Hi, the SD70ACe/45 use the same body of the SD80ACe produced to Vale mining and Demonstrator 8080. The extra radiator help to blow air to the traction motors too, what is very important in the railroads with steep grades and big tunnels like MRS. But it has a 16 cylinders prime move. If the costumer want to do an upgrade to SD80ACEe in the future, it will be necessary to change the prime mover only.
