NR Class in New South Wales
Author: RJM29

The NR-class has been one of the most common locomotives in Australia for years. Originally built for National Rail ("NR") from 1996 the design was done by Goninan with GE technology and a 7FDL-16 prime mover, making it roughly equivilant to a Dash-9-40C in the US.

1. NR-40 leads sister NR-71 and train 3NY3 on the South Main near Breadelbane NSW on 4 Dec 2012.  It's mid-summer Down Under.
2. Three NRs run a "down" steel train near Bethungra, NSW on 2 Dec 2012. NR-36 leads NR-44 and NR-74, the later of which carries special colors for "The Ghan" passenger train. They will soon make their circuit of the Bethungra Spiral (Loop), a 360 degree feature of the South Main between Cootamundra and Junee.
3. An "Up" (towards Sydney) steel train takes a curve near Shepherd NSW on 1 Feb 2014 behind three NRs.  The lead unit still wears the "marigold and gray" paint of National Rail.
