International Railroad Discussion > Transap Chile crew change/break timeDate: 03/10/21 08:49 Transap Chile crew change/break time Author: masterphots Transap SD39M-3 3004W stops a few miles outside of Laja, Chile on 1/10/19. Being 90-degree summer weather, maybe grab a cold one while waiting for the new crew to arrive. I forgot to ask why the change didn't take place in downtown Laja, where the railroad shops and yard are. I'm not aware of any hours of service rules in Chile. The unit, one of four, was built by Wabtec in San Luis Potosi, Mexico, using SP GP40-2s as the base. The SP units used were 7259, 63, 71,72 but we've never verified which became which on Transap. They are now 5 ft 6 in gauge and C-C.

Trucks weren't one of the things that were used....lol Also, to accommodate the loading gauge, fan rings and other bits on top were removed so the highest point is just behind the cab roof. Interesting to note that the fuel tank was reduced to received the C-C trucks. The old B-B units converted to narrow gauge in Brazil received big porches in each end to receive the new BB-BB trucks and keep almost the same size of the original fuel tank
