When you think you've seen it all (Brazil)
Author: pedrop

Hi, it happened today afternoon on MRS railroad. Not easy to understand.  I imagine it fell from a viaduct, but why? Maybe the driver was using his cell phone. I don't have more details for while.

Is that the driver on the ground?  Or did that guy fall down laughing?

Yes, is the driver waiting for an ambulance. He survived with no serious injuries.  It's a miracle.

I take it guard rails aren't that common in Brazil.

Bombs Away !  Next thing they will be installing crash posts in the cab roof on locomotives. We call them "Headache Racks" on fork lifts. I don't think a Hard Hat would have helped with this one.  Wow !

I have been in the traffic engineering business for 29 years and regularly look at crash reports.  Have seen some crazy things, but this is a first!

Was the train in motion when the van landed on it>?

I have to ask: you're the crew running this train, and halfway back something falls on it. How do you even realize it happened? Would that give you any appreciable sensation? Did a hotbox detector add two axles to the expected count?

Never couple a train across a grade crossing.
