Third rail ( Brazil)
Author: pedrop

Hi, I took these while walking on the road along the tracks yesterday. Nice sundowns these days. It's Winter.  Very dry and a bit cold.

Pictures 1 and 3 are the best looking track I have seen in Brazil,  no weeds.

Thanks for posting as always.

I'm curious - what is the function of that signal? Brazil seems to have almost no line side block or control point signaling outside of some former ALL lines.

Hi, that signal indicates that the spring switching key ahead is aligned to mainline.  If the train needs to pass by the siding, it will be change the key position manually. In my area, all westbound trains enter the yards by the sidings, while the eastbounds do it by mainline. The reason is that most of the eastbounds are loaded trains.

Yes, in the Winter is too much dry here and we have many fires that burn the fields and the weeds along the tracks.

An interesting look at the three rails. Beautiful Sunset! Enjoy the cool temps Pedro, lol, wish we had them in the backyard.

Here in the US before CTC controlled electic operated switch machines,  spring switches were very common.
