Made in Brazil to Chile

The first rebuilt unit made by Progress Rail plant in Hortolandia SP Brazil to Chile is on the road. They used an old ex US  SD40-2 as a core to built it. There is another one inside the sheds. I imagine it is ready to departing to Chile too.

At the moment, three units for Fepasa in Chile. The Progress Rail plant is for old or rebuilt units only. The EMD plant is for new ones. But, PR plant made a new PR22 to CPTM here in Brazil.

Very NICE looking unit going for a truck ride. I'm sure Chile will enjoy this locomotive.

Whoa! What is the deal with that radiator section? Any idea what the prime mover is?

I am trying to get some data about these strange rebuilt units. For sure, the radiator section is very strange.

Given the short runs on most trains here,   no need for big fuel tanks and also keeps the weight down.   Witness former SD40-2 3305 (x-BNSF 7237):
