International Railroad Discussion > What the hell is this? (Brazil)

Hi, I received these pictures from a friend on the road today. It's about 100 km from here. It's a very heavy and big railroad car. I imagine it is going to a steel plant somewhere.  Have someone seen a thing like this before?

Would it be something for the steel mill perhaps.?? Dumping hot waste materials.??

My guess would be part of the coke process, transporting from ovens to point of use. On-site movement of slag is also a possibility. The older ones that I've seen photos of in the U.S. are smaller. But a new plant may use larger versions.

Pedro, check out Thermon.ind.br website. It’s all in Portuguese, so I can’t read it. The photos however show many of their products which are industrial process related and look similar to the devices in your photos. It does not appear to be related to US based Thermon, who makes a variety of heat tracing and similar products

Yes, hot coke from ovens pushed into this car for a trip to the quencher...
