International Railroad Discussion > A look at Monte Azul (Brazil)

My last post was on the rock slides and floods in Monte Azul (EMA) and Urandi hill. Here are some pictures from my friend Christopher took sometimes ago around that nice location. Monte Azul means Blue Mountain, as you can easily perceive in the pictures.  It is located about 650 km from here.  It is a desert area, very hot and dry. But it's a beautifull location for train watching due to old trackage around the mountains.

16) In this old map of VFFLB railroad we can see the tracks from Monte Azul  MG to Contendas BA. It belongs to VLI railroad Minas - Bahia subdivision nowadays.

It is amazing to see all those abandoned freight cars.  Here in the U.S. they would be towed off and sold to scrap dealers.  In that part of the narerow gauge are there very many trains running on it ?

Very interesting series Pedro! From floods and right of way destruction to the dry desert area of Monte Azul. Lots of track build back in the flood area. Your pictures from a few days ago, the weather looked good.

I read an article today regarding flooding in Brazil.  Appears to be getting worse and some damns are in danger of failing.
