Hi, another accident due to the intense rains in Bahia and Minas Gerais border. Iron ore M512 found a big rock slide at Km 787 in the Urandi hill. A bit more and the locomotive could be sent to the deep valley at side. The tracks are blocked in that area since then.

1 - 3) The U20C 2681 was damaged after the collision  with the rock slide at Urani hill.

Had to be a hard collision.  Its a wonder he was not thrown thru the windshield.

When the rains stop I wonder if the railroads will do a lot of widening of the cuts.

Sure has been bad luck with the wet weather an derailments. I bet that was a scary moment for the train crew.

Yes, there was a rail car ahead, but it is the case of the slide that happens between the inspection car and the train.

I don't believe they will do it, since it is a long strech of tracks to be widening.

So there is to much mileage  (KM"S  of track for them to do  it  ?  From the pictures you have posted  those are really narrow and just ripe for rainfall to cause a lot of wall collapse in those  cuts. Many are straight up and down with no slant to them.  I think   they really are a danger to trains and people running them.

The VLI narrow gauge  system from here to Bahia has about 1,500 km full of narrow cuts, grades and small radius curves. It is a beautifull line for railfans, but terrible to railroaders. VLI never will put sufficient money there to change it into a safe railroad.
