International Railroad Discussion > There was a big stone on the way (Brazil)Date: 12/30/21 09:32 There was a big stone on the way (Brazil) Author: pedrop Hi, another accident due to the intense rains in Bahia and Minas Gerais border. Iron ore M512 found a big rock slide at Km 787 in the Urandi hill. A bit more and the locomotive could be sent to the deep valley at side. The tracks are blocked in that area since then.
1 - 3) The U20C 2681 was damaged after the collision with the rock slide at Urani hill. Pedro Rezende Vespasiano MG, Edited 2 time(s). Last edit at 12/30/21 10:05 by pedrop. That's all for now. Pedro Rezende Vespasiano MG, https://youtube.com/c/minasgeraisrailways1 Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 12/30/21 09:42 by pedrop. When the rains stop I wonder if the railroads will do a lot of widening of the cuts. Date: 12/30/21 18:01 Re: There was a big stone on the way (Brazil) Author: Ritzville Sure has been bad luck with the wet weather an derailments. I bet that was a scary moment for the train crew.

Victor Date: 12/31/21 12:26 Re: There was a big stone on the way (Brazil) Author: pedrop Yes, there was a rail car ahead, but it is the case of the slide that happens between the inspection car and the train.

Pedro Rezende Vespasiano MG, https://youtube.com/c/minasgeraisrailways1 Date: 12/31/21 13:55 Re: There was a big stone on the way (Brazil) Author: tomstp So there is to much mileage (KM"S of track for them to do it ? From the pictures you have posted those are really narrow and just ripe for rainfall to cause a lot of wall collapse in those cuts. Many are straight up and down with no slant to them. I think they really are a danger to trains and people running them.
Date: 12/31/21 14:12 Re: There was a big stone on the way (Brazil) Author: pedrop The VLI narrow gauge system from here to Bahia has about 1,500 km full of narrow cuts, grades and small radius curves. It is a beautifull line for railfans, but terrible to railroaders. VLI never will put sufficient money there to change it into a safe railroad.
