International Railroad Discussion > The first ES44ACi built in BrazilDate: 01/27/22 17:24 The first ES44ACi built in Brazil Author: pedrop Hi, Wabtech ended the production of AC44i in Brazil and started the ES44 series. The first order came from Suzano Cellulose, one of the huge cellulose producers in Brazil. It ordered 20 units to be operated by Rumo railroad. The first two units are ready at Wabtech. Pictures Suzano Co.
Rumo intends to order 200 units too. MRS also intends to by some. Pedro Rezende Vespasiano MG, Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 01/27/22 17:47 by pedrop. Date: 01/27/22 17:28 Re: The first ES44ACi built in Brazil Author: pedrop More views. Unfortunately no side views for while. Wabtch plant is too small to allow a good side view of the locomotives.
That's all for now. Pedro Pedro Rezende Vespasiano MG, https://youtube.com/c/minasgeraisrailways1 Edited 2 time(s). Last edit at 01/27/22 17:40 by pedrop. Date: 01/27/22 17:57 Re: The first ES44ACi built in Brazil Author: Ritzville Nice looking unit, looks powerful! Thanks for all the pictures.

See: https://www.ecfr.gov/current/title-49/subtitle-B/chapter-II/part-223 Could the metal screens be removed if this glazing regulation was followed? About the glass numberboards, I almost wonder why even bother. Just use cheap reflective vinyl decals (stickers) on the solid steel. But hey, it's not my railroad, just an opinion.

And, if I recall correctly, these are Russian gauge lines? Ted in OR Date: 01/31/22 20:55 Re: The first ES44ACi built in Brazil Author: MitchGDRMCo "Irish gauge" of 5ft3in or 1600mm iirc, "Russian gauge" being 5ft or 1520mm.

Date: 02/03/22 15:01 Re: The first ES44ACi built in Brazil Author: pedrop That's what we are wondering. Vale has a good fleet of
BB40-9W'S , but Vale asked permition to build new railroads here to serve new costumers, like Anglo American. If Vale get the permition, they will need more locos and maybe it will order ES44 or SD70BB. There is a MRS broad gauge unit using the ES44AC profile at FBO yard right now. FBO is the broad gauge yard near Wabtech. I do not know if the profile is to test the tracks to MRS itself, or just to check if the ES44 will find a clear way to Rumo system. Sometimes ago, MRS used a similar profile to check the clearence for the ES58AC delivered for Vale. Pictures of AC44i at FBO from my friend Paulo Henrique.
