TLSA ballast train (Brazil)
Author: pedrop

At this time there are some new big railroads under construction in Brazil. TLSA ( Transnordestina Logística SA) is one of them. With 1,743km long is one one the largest in the Norteast. It will link the states of Ceará, Pernambuco and Piauí.
TLSA bought a few former BNSF SD40-2 and also some in Brazil from MRS. Now they rented three SD70ACe/45 from Eldorado Cellulose Co.

Here it is what the TLSA group says about the project:

"Government are building the Transnordestina railroad, one of the biggest construction projects in Brazil today. With 1,753 kilometers of main line coverage, the world-class railway passes through 81 cities, from Eliseu Martins, in Piauí, toward the ports of Pecém, in Ceará, and Suape, in Pernambuco. It fulfills the old dream of national integration and encourages local production, which, in turn, promotes new businesses.The project is funded by CSN, Valec, Finor, BNDES, BNB and Sudene. The railway will have the capacity to transport 30 million tons per year, mainly dry bulk (ore and grain).By promoting integration, Transnordestina becomes fundamental in making the economy of the northeast more dynamic and connecting Brazil to major global markets."

1) In the map, the green section is built; the orange and blue is under construction; and the red is planned and my be changed the route to the sea;

2) I received two wideos from a friend that shows the first job done by the trio of Eldorado SD70ACe/45. They took a big ballaat train from Salgueiro to Trindade.  The video had no spund, so I added a sound because it could be boring watching the video without sound;

3) One of the TLSA SD40-2.

Yes, at this time we have at least four big railroads been built crossing the country from one side to other. There are many projects to shortlines also. Brazil has a natural vocation for ore and grain business. It is said that one in each five person in the world is fed by Brazilian grains. So it is natural that we will have great railroads for grains. Our government is investing a lot in transport infrastructure like no other has done before. I will open new post showing some of these railroads under construction in Brazil.
