Downunder Images - April to June 2022

Hi all,

Here is the next series for 2022. All taken in South Australia unless noted.

1. 3AD1 with ALF22 and GWA003 has just arrived at Chandler where the GWA will be turned on the triangle and placed as the lead unit on 4/13/22.

2. Under a clear sky and full moon, 6DA2 with GWA003, ALF22 and FQ01 wait in the siding at Illoquara, Northern Territory in the early hours of 4/16/22.

3. Later that night at Burando and llluminated by a hand held flash light as we waited in the siding for a cross.

Next lot.

1. Pacific Natioanl units BL26, G525 and XR559 are stabled at Murtoa, Victoria on 4/21/22.

2. Waiting for a cross at Diapur Loop, Victoria is 4AK1 empty grain train to Murtoa with GWU014, GWA001, GWA009 on 4/24/22. One Rail recently took delivery of GWU012-GWU015 built by UGL.

3. SCT service 4MA9 with SCT006, CSR018, CSR015 and CSR008 crosses the Murray River Vridge at Murray Bridge on 4/28/22. SCT has taken delivery of CSR013 to CSR024 this year.

Next lot.

1. 2182S loeaded grain train from Tailem Bend with CLF6, CLP8, G535, CLP17, G533 crosses the Murray River bridge at Murray Bridge on 4/28/22.

2. The train climbs the 2.2% grade out of Callington.

3. The same train passes through Nairne.

Next lot.

1. SCT service 5MA9 with EL55, EL51 and EL62 passes through Yantaringa on 4/29/22.

2. Pacific National service 6MP1 with G542, NR18, NR70 and NR5 passes through Nairne on 4/29/22. G542 was added to the lead at Tailem Bend after locomotive issues.

3. The same train passes through Bridgewater.

Next lot.

1. Loaded rail train, 6XM2 with EL60 and EL56 passes through Mt. Lofty on 4/29/22. These welded rail trains are running from Port Augusta, South Australia to Maryborough in Victoria for a track upgrade project.

2. Bowmans Rail service 4416S from Port Pirie to Bowmans passes through Nantawarra with CM3308 and VL361 on 5/3/22.

3. 1903S empty ore train to Wirrida waits on the siding at Nantawarra with GWU012 and GWU013 on 5/3/22.

Next lot.

1. 6AD1 with GWB103 and ALF20 passes through Carnes on 5/21/22/

2. 6DA2 with GWA002 and FQ04 waits at Kingoonya on 5/21/22.

3. Steamranger's DL531, no. 844 under restoration at Mt. Barker on 5/22/22.

1 & 2. Steamranger's 845 under restoration at Mt. Barker on 5/22/22.

3. The nose cone and new front smokebox section for 520 at Steamranger's Mt. Barker depot on 5/22/22.

Next lot.

1. 520 with its boiler removed whilst it undergoes restoration on 5/22/22.

2. Steamranger's Redhen railcar, 424 at Mt. Barker on 5/22/22.

3. 844 and 424 at Mt. Barker on 5/22/22.

Next lot.

1 & 2. Steamranger's 958 departs Bugle Ranges with a shuttle trip on 5/22/22.

3. 621 brings up the rear of the shuttle train.

Next lot.

1. Rx224 and 621 bring up the rear of the shuttle trip at Bugle Ranges on 5/22/22.

2. 4AK1 empty grain train to Dimboola waits at Coomandook with CLP8, V544, ALF19, FQ04, GWA002 on 5/25/22.

3. Former New South Wales Government Railways DMU's NPF621 and NPF721 travel along near Bridgewater as part of a tri state tour on 5/27/22. The railcars travelled from Sydney, New South Wales, to Adelaide, South Australia then Melbourne, Victoria before heading back to Sydney.

The last lot.

1. The tri state tour heads through Petwood.

2. SCT service 6KA9 with EL51, EL55 and EL57 arrives at Mt. Barker Jct for a cross on 6/3/22.

3. The same train passes through Yantaringa.

Hopefully I can upload some video footage in the next few days.

I missed one shot.

Alco DL500G units, 703, 701 and 705 sit at the Dry Creek MPC after having being moved from their storage location of the the last 7 years in Dry Creek South yard. 703 was in under cover storage while the other two were outside. All three have been retired and will be off to new owners soon. 5/17/22.

Well, tonight's work should keep the "Image of the Day" editors busy for the next six months.  Really nice photography.
