Hi all,

Some video footage of One Rail Australia's loaded grain train, 2182S from Tailem Bend as it crosses the Murray River then climbs the 2.2% grades of the Adelaide Hills on 4/28/2022. The locomotives were CLF6, CLP8, G535, CLP17, G533.

The CL-class was introduced in 1970, built by Clyde Engineering. They were rebuilt to the CLF and CLP classes by Morrison Knudsen in 1993.

Goodness 50 and 30 years..  They sure sounded good running.

Yes the CL's were built in 1970-1972 as the model AT26C, basically an SD40 inside. In 1993, the 17 members of the class were rebuilt by Morrison Knudsen into CLF1-CLF7 (AT26C-2M) and CLP8-CLP17 (AT26HC-2M). The CLP's were fitted with a pair of Cummins-Onan HEP units for use on passenger trains. Starting in 2000, the MK-LOC computer systems in these units and the ALF class were replaced with the ZTR Nexsys II wheel slip control system except CLF2 which has been fitted with Wabtec QES-3. 

The 2006 split up of ARG saw Genesee and Wyoming retain the six units they have now and ARG (QR National / Aurizon) take ownership of the remaining units which were later sold. QRN removed the HEP units out of their CLP's and One Rail removed them from CLP during its overhaul last year.

Two have been scrapped so far with CLP15 (originally CL1) destroyed in a head on collision at Mt. Christie in 1997 and CLF7 (originally CL16) scrapped in 2016.

The current fleet is divided up as.

One Rail Australia - CLF5, CLF6, CLP8, CLP14, CLP16, CLP17.
Southern Shorthaul Railroad - CLF1, CLF3, CLP9 (under re-activation), CLP12.
Rail Power Leasing - CLF2, CLF4 in service and CLP11, CLP13 under re-activation.
Streamliners Australia - CLP10. This was built as CL17 and is currently under restoration and conversion back to CL17 as it was the last EMD style streamliner built in the world.
